Hello! My name is Micah DeBenedetto. I’m the “MD” of MD Photography. I started this business in the Fall of 2010.  Early in life, I realized the impact of storytelling through images. However, for an education, I pursued a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin, an unconventional path towards photography as a profession, as if there was a truly conventional one!

This is a really big picture of me:

Thanks to my parents, my eclectic perspective was finally able to be take shape after I received as a birthday gift around 1996 my first 35mm film camera, Canon Rebel EOS 2000. While a student attending Del Mar College, I briefly studied the fine art of photographing including the development of black and white film, where I spent countless hours in the dark room. With the inception of the digital photography age, my perspective again transformed and my “eye” began to take shape while serving as a photojournalist for The Daily Texan in 2005. This formed my fundamental vision as the “fly on the wall.”  Upon successful completion of a competitive application process, I had the opportunity to hone my newfound photojournalistic style while covering a wide range of assignments from the rotunda of the Texas State Capitol to a Middle-Eastern Festival on the South Mall of The University of Texas.

Upon graduation, which also coincided with the purchase of my first digital camera the Canon EOS 20D, I embarked upon my first tour of Europe; while there, my love for travel and food photography was born. New York City, Pittsburgh, Jamaica, Colorado, Puerto Rico, you-name-it-Texas, and various countries across Europe represent the breadth of my travels. I currently focus on Special Event Photography including weddings, concerts, live arts, as well as Commercial Photography.

I’m currently incorporating the world of videography with the inception of highly versatile and functional digital High Definition – SLR (single-lens reflex) cameras.  Visit my photography page at www.mymdphotography.com, videography page at www.youtube.com/mymdphotography, or blog at mdfotography.wordpress.com.

Since 2010, I’ve been a member of PPA (Professional Photographers of America) as well as TPPA (Texas Professional Photographers Association).  Also, I currently serve as a Freelance Photojournalist for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, with studio space at of KSpace Contemporary Art Museum  http://www.kspacecontemporary.org.

    • Wow I have no idea what those awards are or rather I’ve never heard about them before but I’m very thankful for the thought and notion. I actually really do enjoy blogging and I actually real love what I put out there – however self-loathing that might sound! Thank you for taking time to stop bye and comment. That means the world to me. Have a great day!

    • Hey Allan, “mofman” currently I dont practice chemistry. However when i was working as one I managed a small laboratory as Director of Operations (fancy title huh!?) at Photoprotective Technologies Inc. we manufactured organic and aqueous products that were used in products to protect against uv damage. A few of them ranged from sunglasses to cosmetics to fluorescent light covers. The venture was interesting conceptually and practically but ultimately it wasnt someplace that I wanted to be 10 years down the line, which was the length of time for the person that trained me and I replaced. I ventured off to live outside of my home state of Texa and leave Chemistry behind. Unfortunately I failed to make a move outside of Texas but have since started to pursue photography professionally. Excuse the long winded answer. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and read “about me”. Keep pursuing…

  2. Wow Chemistry then Photography. Really, nothing goes as planned. I’m glad you chose to embrace your passion for photography because you take amazing shots. Cheers
