Young Business Professionals Takes on the Capitol | Austin, Texas | February 12, 2013

On the February 12th, I had the opportunity to travel to the lovely capital city of Austin, Texas with the Young Business Professionals of the Coastal Bend (hereafter YBP, website  YBP is a 501c6 that focuses on connecting the community through community service projects, mixers, speaker series, and other general networking in hopes of retaining and fostering professional relationships with students, experienced business professionals, and the City of Corpus Christi, Texas.  They are tied directly with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC).

I was most impressed with the ease of visiting our respective offices, including those outside of our districts.  We literally were able to walk into them and directly speak with in ALL cases, one of the representative’s representatives!  With all due respects most representatives were busy in planning committees.  In fact at one point I remember hearing something to the effect, “Please sit down and make yourself comfortable, this is your office not ours.”

The purpose of the trip was to provide relevant information as it pertains to the current success of TAMU-CC as well as it’s intended future growth, information that would hopefully rise to the top during budgeting meetings.  I’m not going to attempt to run off some of these impressive facts about the University and it’s programs. So here’s a copy of the Legislative Action Request we were passing out to the various offices we had a chance to visit, some of which included Senators Zaffirini and Hinojosa and Representatives Naishtat, Hunter, and Herrero.
