Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa – Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s State Alliance Champion of the Year – June 19, 2012

On June 19, 2012, The Boys & Girls Clubs of America presented Texas Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa as its State Alliance Champion of the Year for his support of Texas Boys & Girls Clubs at Corpus Christi’s Boys & Girls Club.

From the PRESS RELEASE: “The National State Alliance Champion of the Year Award is given to a volunteer or a non-paid entity that is not currently serving on an Alliance Board and that has gone above and beyond to further the position of the State Alliance, help secure or maintain state funding or had other major impact on the State Alliance.

Senator Hinojosa champions the Texas AIM program at the Texas Education Agency.  In it’s 3rd year, the program has served nearly 6,000 at-risk and limited English proficiency youth, through a skills gap remediation curriculum led by certified teachers in the Club afterschool.  After only 30 hours of small group instruction, 87% of  youth advance an academic level.  Youth also receive critical wrap around prevention services daily at the local Boys & Girls Clubs.”

WHOA!  Those are awesome numbers that speak volumes to the success and importance of such a program.  Maybe you’ll consider donating your time to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America… until then here are some pictures I’d like to share from that day including some outtakes.

I don't know what I was going for here... but I like it.
