Happy 75th Birthday Philip Glass

Today marks the 75th Birthday of Philip Glass. Read his bio here. I had the pleasure of hearing him perform at the Texas Performing Arts Center Harry Ransom Center in February of 2009. His music is very characteristic – as easily recognizable as a still frame from a Stanley Kubrick film – once you hear those sweeping repetitive arpeggios you instantly know it’s a Philip Glass composition.

Below is the opening track of Koyaanisqatsi!

Tonight he will be performing his Symphony No. 9, Movement 1. If you can’t make it … buy track here.  Listen to the symphony performance and interview with his second cousin and This American Life host Ira Glass here.
